Hamida Bano, 24 Years Of Separation Ends

My name is Hamida Banu Muhammad Hanif Shaikh. Twenty four years ago, I was trafficked to Pakistan from Mumbai, India in the name of a job in Dubai (I used to work in the gulf in those days and had been to Arab countries before). I escaped my traffickers in Hyberabad (Pakistan) and reached Karachi.

I was in Pakistan for twenty four years and had no contact with my family back home (My husband and children). I had to remarry in Pakistan after three years. My second husband died and I had no children with him. I was seventy years old and there was no one here to take care of me.

Thanks to social media, I could contact my family after twenty two years. You can watch my story here in these videos.

I and my children were heartbroken. It became unbearable for me to live anymore without them.

Thanks to Waliulah Maroof, I got back in touch with my family and after fighting for some more time, here is how I got back with them.

Bidding farewell to Karachi
She knew their faces, not their lives,
Each smile a thread she’d only dreamed—
They stood like echoes grown to flesh,
More real, yet further than they seemed.
She held their hands, now not so small,
And wept for years that didn’t call.
She knew their faces, changed by years,
Yet in their eyes, the same old light.
Their laughter rose, and time grew soft—
A distant storm now lost from sight.
She held them close, her world made whole,
And felt the years return in soul.
She found her there in white and steel,
So still, yet more than words could feel.
The face was hers, though lined with pain,
A bloom that braved too much of rain.
One touch, and years they never knew
Came rushing back in quiet blue.
