Chaman Ara’s 53 Years heartache comes to an end

When a grandson in Bangladesh looking for his grandmother found her after 53 years

All we had was a message from a young man in Bangladesh

Please help me.
This is not just a story—it’s the truth. A beautiful family once lived together: a father, a mother, and three daughters.
They spent a good childhood in Mohammadpur, a neighborhood in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Then everything suddenly fell apart. In 1971, war broke out between Pakistan and Bangladesh, turning all their dreams into a nightmare.
The dates may not be exact. The parents, with their three young daughters, left Dhaka’s Mohammadpur heading toward Dinajpur.
They were nearing a place called “Das Mile (Ten Miles)” near Dinajpur when they came under sudden attack.
The family was separated.
The parents and daughters lost one another.
After losing the parents, the girls were left helpless.
Two daughters were raised by someone else.
After the long nine-month war, the father returned to search for his family. After much effort, he found two daughters—Shelly and Luma—living with another family.
But he never found his youngest daughter and his wife, Chaman Ara Begum.
Eventually, it was discovered that Chaman Ara Begum had returned to Pakistan, as she was born there and was originally Pakistani.
Chaman Ara Begum was a Pakistani woman.
Her husband, Chini Mia, worked for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
He married Chaman Ara during his service.
They were living in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, before being trapped in Bangladesh due to the 1971 war.
Shelly and Luma lost their mother in the chaos and are still searching for her.
If anyone kind-hearted comes across any information about Chaman Ara Begum, I will be forever grateful.
This is not a fictional tale—this is real.
A daughter wants to find her mother.
Below is Chaman Ara Begum’s last known address and a childhood photo.

We found Chaman Ara in Karachi

We lost no time in connecting her to her daughters. After more than half a century the mother could see and talk to her children.

Her husband was from Bangladesh. They were married before the Partition of Bengal.

There were news of loved ones…long dead.

They broke down, so did we.

But it was bitter sweat. The daughters come to know how their mother was forcefully separated from her daughters. She didn’t abandon them. She was forced against her will. One of the girls’ uncles was responsible for it. She lost another child with whom she was pregnant.

The cruelty she endured is beyond what any human should be expected to bear.
As a result of that trauma, her mental health is no longer fully stable.

Of the two daughters now lives in Bangladesh and the other in Denmark.

Chaman Ara and Her Daughters—Now Reunited in Words and Laughter

Chaman Ara and her two daughters Shelly and Luma, are now in constant contact through video calls.
Their conversations are filled with memories, stories of the past, and moments of laughter and joy.

Chaman Ara often reminisces, telling her daughters about her time in Bengal and everything that happened back then.
The mother and daughters laugh together, tease each other, and continue rebuilding the bond time had tried to erase.

But the conversation often circles back to one heartfelt plea:

“Daughter, when will you call me to Bengal? I can’t bear this distance anymore… My passport is ready.”

Late into the night, I too spoke with her.
Alongside me was Netul Kaxi, the son-in-law of Chaman Ara, who first contacted me to help find her.
It was through his efforts and this shared determination that this miracle of reunion began.

Got her Visa and went to give her the good news on 17th April 2024

She is going back to meet her daughters in Bangladesh. See her happiness.
